Eine Frau in Shorts mit Cellulite und eine Frau ohne Cellulite

4 Main Causes of Cellulite

Every day, someone finds themselves in front of a mirror staring at their own image, upset by what they find. Lumps folding the skin around their arms and thighs can be a lot to handle. It is such a disheartening sight for most, yet close to 90 percent of women experience cellulite in their lifetime.

The most underlying causes of cellulite are unknown, but there are speculations in research that suggest there are 4 main causes that play a part with the development of cellulite along with the genetic lottery.

The 4 Main Causes of Cellulite Are:

  • The weakening of connective tissue
  • Blood circulation disorders
  • Overweight
  • Shortened tissue fiber

#1 The Weakening of Connective Tissues

There are connective fibers underneath our skin that form a sort of wall to keep fat in place. When these collagen fibers are loosened, the fat beneath the skin expands to shape the lumps and bumps we call cellulite.

#2 Blood circulation disorders

Our bodies have a circulation system that transfers nutrients, oxygen, and blood throughout different regions of the body. Poor circulation happens when blood flow has been reduced to a certain part of the body. Being dehydrated is one reason for poor blood circulation. Poor blood circulation can affect areas like the arms and legs, which, turn out the be the most common areas for cellulite to develop.

There are many causes of poor circulation, such as obesity, artery disease, diabetes, blood clots, and varicose veins. None of these causes other than obesity have been linked to cellulite, but they can all be possible symptoms along the chain.

#3 Overweight

Obesity is a typical cause of cellulite due to the consumption of large amounts of salt, carbohydrates, and fatty acids. Another cause of obesity is the lack of exercise. Our bodies are intended for movement. Life, where movement is lacking, can be a leading cause of obesity.

#4 Shortened Tissue Fiber

This the most important cause because there are tissues within the skin called fibrous tissues that hold together the layers of skin. When these tissues are shortened, the fat tends to poke through due to the lack of coverage causing cellulite. The layout of fibrous tissue and hormones make it more likely for women to have cellulite.

There are 3  grades of cellulite one might experience in their lifetime.

Grade 1 has an Orange peel appearance where there are between one and four depressions on the skin. There is a partial sag in the area.

Grade 2 has between 5 to 9 deep depressions. The skin resembles cottage cheese and is slightly deeper than grade one.

Grade 3 takes on the so-called mattress effect. Including 10 or more depressions in the skin while the skin is heavily draped.

We’ve discussed the causes and levels of cellulite. You must be asking what the best ways to rid or reduce cellulite are.

Treatments for Cellulite

It is a good question to ask because there are a lot of ways people are trying to remove cellulite from their bodies such as acoustic wave therapy, Vacuum-assisted tissue release, and laser treatment.

The Easiest Ways to Reduce Cellulite are:

  • Cellfina treatment
  • Lifestyle changes
  • Strengthening creams
  • Muscle strengthening

The cellfina treatment is an invasive, non-surgical operation that subtracts the appearance of cellulite. It is a device the size of a needle that is used to release the shortened fibrous bands that are pulling the skin in and creating the dimple-like bumps on the surface.

When having this treatment, the doctor will first apply a numbing solution to the designated area. Then they will take the cellfina device and insert a microblade beneath the surface to release the fibrous bands.

It takes around one hour to remove an average of 25 dimples depending on their size. This treatment can range from 3,500$ to 6,5000$ with an average around 4,500$.

Side effects such as tenderness, bruising, and soreness are common after treatment. It would be best to limit exercise after the procedure and wear tighter clothing. There are cheaper ways to reduce the appearance of cellulite, but it is good to remember that cellulite is a natural body function as life goes on.

Strengthening Creams

Another way to get that clear looking skin you’ve been seeking is through strengthening creams. There are many strengthening cream products for cellulite, and it is up to you to find what product has the best story.

There are two ingredients in the leading brands of anti-cellulite cream that can reduce the appearance of cellulite: Retinol and L-carnitine.

Retinol used in anti-cellulite creams has been said to increase the collagen in the skin.  This will tighten the layer of skin and create a smoother skin tone to reduce the sight of cellulite. It would be best to consider using a product with 0.4% retinol as one of the ingredients.

L-carnitine is a fat burning nutrient found in the body and many anti-cellulite solutions. The idea that L-carnitine can reduce cellulite is based on thermogenic therapy, which is a weight loss agent designed to increase the chances of burning energy.

I want to remind you that these creams only reduce the appearance of cellulite, they do not get rid of them totally. The best possible results can be achieved by adding exercise and a healthy diet into the mix.

Muscle Strengthening

There are tons of exercises that can be done to strengthen the core leg and arm muscles to reduce the amount of fat that can poke through the skin. A few can be found at the bottom of the page.

None of these treatments are set in stone as solutions; in fact, some may not work for everyone. It is up to you to decide which one to attempt. Of course, you can try them all, but I would begin by implementing exercise and a decent diet into your life.

I keep signifying the importance of a daily diet and regular exercise to ward off the dreaded yet beautiful curse of nature in cellulite.

Now I am not a personal trainer, but I have a few exercises as well as food items you may want to give a try if you are already there, great! Not only will it help with cellulite, but it can help in other crucial areas of life as well.

Lifestyle Changes

Lifestyle changes, such as lower body exercise and developing a diet can have a significant effect on reducing cellulite. Removing carbohydrates, salts, and fatty foods can help with this process.

Foods like asparagus, bananas, and grapefruits can be added to the diet and help reduce cellulite as well as benefit the immune system. Lifestyle changes are the result of one’s own determination to take control of their health and gain back their confidence.

Exercises that Help Reduce Cellulite

Step ups – find a chair or a bench and step up with one leg then step down. Aim for 15 reps each leg.

Lunges – Lungs can be done while walking or in a single position. Take a step forward and bend both knees at a 90-degree angle.  After ten reps of one leg out in front, switch them and do 10 more.

Cardio exercise – running is a great way to burn energy and reduce cellulite. Run for as long as you can and at a steady pace.

Squats – Keep the weight on your heels and your back straight, reach a 90-degree angle and, come back up to a standing position.  Do this 50 times and you’ll be on your way.

Foods that Reduce Cellulite

Now these foods won’t make cellulite disappear once consumed, of course. However if you focus on them, you should see better health overall which leads to better skin tone and appearance.

Try these foods out and add your favorites to your diet.

  • Red grass fed beef
  • Grass fed lamb meat
  • Salmon
  • Whole grain
  • Watermelon
  • Any kind of fish
  • Avocados

  • Fast food
  • Alcohol
  • Anything high in carbs (sugary drinks, sweets, bread)

Some of these food items can stand alone when you’re eating but, creating meals out of this list and list like it can be a huge game changer.

At the end of the day, the work you put in will equal what you will get in return. Just know that having cellulite does not make you any less beautiful or less of what makes you who you are. Take the time to treat your body, make it your mission, and you’ll find the results.
